Frequently asked questions
Can I practice drafting before my league begins?
Yes! Mock drafts are a great way to prepare for the real event, and DraftOwl will give you a great sense of your strategy in just one or two practice drafts!
Go to https://fantasy.espn.com/football/mockdraftlobby and refer to the following image to start your mock draft
How do I connect to my league?
On the main page, fill out the field “League ID”. Once you’ve entered your official draft (not the league home page, the draft itself), look for the term leagueid=xxxxx in the url. and paste that number into the field.
I’m getting an error alert! ESPN Dom and/or URL not accessible.
The extension is unable to connect to your draft. Make sure your live draft is open on a Google Chrome tab.
My league has successfully loaded. How do I optimize for my specific team?
In the field “Enter Team #”, put in your draft slot. This number will always equal the value of your first round pick.
Why are the FPTS (projected fantasy points) and ADP (average draft position) columns different than those in the draft client?
DraftOwl uses an aggregation of projections via fantasypros.com in order to view the draft from the most impartial standpoint.
ADP should be more tightly aligned to host’s numbers.
I clicked optimize and there are players highlighted in blue. What does that mean?
You must be trying to see the potential options before it’s your pick! Players in this color are projected to be selected before your turn, so they are not factored as possible options for your team.
Why is the model not telling me to pick the player with the highest points?
Sometimes the best pick for your situation is not the player with the highest projected points but maybe someone in a different position: if the best player you’ll be able to pick in the next round is a wide receiver, maybe the model will suggest you to pick a running back in preparation for that pick.
Sometimes the model thinks you will be able to be patient before drafting the best available player. If you can get the same player one round later, use the current pick on someone else!
Why are there three options to select from?
If you don’t like the first player suggested, try seeing the output from the next best option. It might present a strategy you prefer!
